TUESDAY'S: Face to Face With God

Face to Face Questions: 1 Samuel 17:1-54

1. I must admit, I totally love this passage. How could you not, it is one of the most intense fights in history that proves the POWER OF GOD! Now, many of us know the story of David and Goliath...just want to ask a few questions. How many days did Goliath come and yell at the Israelites to send a man down to fight him?
2. We know that the warriors of Israel were terrified. Why did Jesse send his youngest son, David to the front lines? It was also said that Saul would give something to the man who comes forward to fight Goliath and kill him. What was that?
3. So, how do you think David's brother's felt about him being there and talking about waht was going on? Why did you think his older brother responded the way he did?
4. David was not new to battle. Share what he faced in the fields herding sheep and then what happened on this battle field. What does this mean for us in our battle fields? How must we be prepared? How is God preparing you daily? Where do you get equipped?

THRIVE TODAY said...

1. 40 days.
2. David went back and forth to Saul to tend his father's sheep in Bethlehem...we read this in verse 15. In verse 17 we read that David's father sent him to bring them nourishment to them and also to the commander. He wanted to know how his sons were doing and wanted David to "bring back some assurance from them."
What was it that Saul promised to give the man who fought and killed Goliah? vs 25 "the king will give great weath to the man who kills him. He will also give him his daughter in marriage and will exempt his father's family from taxes in Israel."

3. Well, it stated that his older brother, Eliab, burned with anger. Who knows why he burned with anger...it could be that he was jealous, scared, felt as if David's questioning was disrepectful, made him feel small because he was afraid. Whatever the reason....anger is at times a way that we express fear. I can only imagine that there may have also been some sibling rivalry as well as we see that David even questioned his brother back and turned to ask someone else...not his brothers, the same question. How many of us have had the same responses in situations? Interesting how David responded.
4. David wasn't knew to battle. He fought lions and bears to keep the sheep safe. God had been training him to trust HIM. He was training HIM for what He had in store for him in the future.......

post your thoughts regarding the last bit of these questions.
